Yay! You're starting a blog!
I remember the day I started my blog.
It all started when I saw a tweet by a blogger I followed. "I'm hanging out at the Rudy's on 183 in Austin if anyone wants to eat bbq!" It was Michael Hyatt, a popular blogger on leadership, and he happened to be 15 minutes away from my off-campus apartment.
I had to go!
I'm not going to lie to you, I was pretty starstruck. Michael Hyatt is the former CEO of Thomas Nelson publishing, a NYT best selling author and has hundreds of thousands of followers. And here I was a 21-year old girl in a t-shirt and yoga pants in a fast food bbq joint off the highway in Texas.
I told Michael it was my dream to write books one day and he asked me, "Have you started a blog?"
I told him I hadn't and he encouraged me that if I ever wanted to publish books, I needed to blog. It was the best way to become a better writer, build an audience, and figure out what I wanted my books to be about.
That evening, I sat down and created my first blog. I had NO idea where to start and the idea of running a website was daunting and unknown.
With, let's be real, ENDLESS time on Google and Youtube, I started my first blog.
Why I Created This Course
Starting a blog can be overwhelming. Little things like writing my bio were impossible! After all, how do I write a summary of my own life?
I had no idea where to start or how to get people to read my blog.
I created this course to encourage you to build your blog and help you along the way, so you can spend more time writing and less time Googling a million questions about creating a blog.
What You'll Learn
I designed this course to help walk you step-by-step through building your first blog. There are two tutorials included in the course: one for setting up hosting for your blog (lesson 2) and one on how to set up your email list (lesson 4).
Plus, you'll find encouragement, tips, and a few bonus downloads to help continue building your blog over the next few weeks.
Lesson 1: 5 Reasons Why You Should Start a Travel Blog
Lesson 2: How to Start Your Own Blog in 8 Steps—A Tutorial
Lesson 3: Creating Your Email List: What It Is and Why You Need One
Lesson 4: How to Start An Email List—A Tutorial
Lesson 5: 9 Things You Must Do to Grow Your Blog
Before you get started, let's talk about why you are starting a blog. It's always good to record your "why" before you start a new project. Blogging is a longterm game and if you don’t know your why, it will be harder to stick with it when things get hard.
Share your answer in the comments and let's encourage each other in our goal to start blogging!
